Pen and Ink...and maybe some paint

WOYWW!

Here we go again! I didn't get very far visiting desks last week, but every week we get to try anew!

I'm up to various things; some artsy, some not so much. I'm not sure why this shot is partially out of focus, partially in focus. My little camera is quite mysterious!

My desk is mainly populated by books at the moment. I have this crazy idea about writing a book for the young adult crowd. I thought I would do a little research first by reading this rather old book on writing. I bought it at the library book sale when it was removed from the shelves. I'm hoping the advice contained therein is "timeless" since it was written in the '60's! I also checked out several books just to look at for various age levels.

Any money earned in my literary career is earmarked to pay back student loans! ;)

The only artwork on my desk is this little watercolor cross that I may use on my blog for Easter. It needs some work. Also, on my slanty top desk you can see my sketchbook which has a sketch of one of my little granddaughters. It doesn't look much like her, so I won't show it up close, but I have done some sketching in the last couple of days.

Hope you all have fun racing around the globe peeking at others' messy desks! Go to Julia's blog to follow the trail of fascinating links!

A little sketching from a video...

I've been wanting to watch this series of artist interviews that Danny Gregory is posting on his blog. Yesterday I finally got to watch one and today I watched a second one. These are artists that are featured in Danny's book "An Illustrated Journey" which I've been reading my way through. I did cheat a little and stop the video so I could draw from a still shot. Hey, one step at a time! :)

This interview was with Roz Stendahl. I was hesitant to mention her name because my portrait skills leave a lot to be desired. I hope I don't have to get permission first? (Let me know if I'm breaking any laws!)

Anyway, here's my rendition of Roz...

...and if you've seen her you know this looks nothing like her! Sorry, Roz!

And this is my quick sketch of Danny Gregory in his little box in the corner of the Skype screen.

I actually like the way this little sketch turned out more than the larger more time-consuming drawing of Roz. I have a hard time loosening up enough to do quick sketches, so I was pleased with this one.

I'm off to post this on Twenty Minute Challenge!

If you're curious to see some of these videos you can find them on Danny's blog here!

Shalom on this glorious Palm Sunday!

Art room metamorphosis...

At the risk of seeming indecisive...I'm moving my art space back to the spare bedroom! This was my study space during my college career. I've exorcised all of the ghosts of nursing studies and am trying to create a space to inspire my inner artist once again. I may have to move my comfy chair back in. This wood chair isn't very relaxing!

My bookshelves always inspire me, especially when Pom's artwork is on display!

I've begun coloring my zentangle inspired art and I had some fun jazzing up my spiral "Art Notes" notebook. I'm jotting down notes about creating and selling greeting cards. There are also lots of other odds and ends of thoughts I've written down in there.

I spent a lot of time sorting through paraphernalia that had accumulated in my slant top desk and now it's much more organized. I have my sketchbooks, journals and paper supplies where I can find them and I've put away extra empty notebooks etc. in my desk drawers. Now I feel ready to begin...something!

Actually, I have a lot of ideas, but it's like they always teach you in writing class: You have to NARROW THE TOPIC and concentrate on one idea at a time! That's where I have difficulty. Discipline!

I like this Roger Ebert quote that Pom Pom so nicely illustrated below.

Once again, it's getting very late. I always seem to get in the mood to begin things just when I should be getting to bed! Oh well, tomorrow is another day!

Shalom to all! May the peace of God envelope your hearts!

WOYWW and the Diva's Challenge...

Lots going on at our place with my dear son, Jordan, visiting for a week. We just got back from an overnight trip to Minneapolis to send him on his way back to Texas. SO, I wanted to do some zentangling for this week's Diva's Challenge which is What is on My Workdesk this week!

I've been using my computer to look up the zentangle patterns for this week's challenge which is to do something "Outside the Box".

So, I dispensed with the zentangling box all together and made this woodland scene using various tangles. This resembles something I made a while back, but I really had fun doing this! I will add color later. Probably colored pencil since my pen isn't waterproof! For some reason, Alium reminds me of the dark patches on birch trees. It didn't turn out as well as I would have liked, but that's the chance you take when you draw directly on paper with pen! :D

To enjoy browsing what's on other people's desks this week go to the Stampin' Grounds!

For more outside the box zentangles jump on over to The Diva's page!

Time to retire for the night. Shalom and good-night to all you artistes out there!

Art by my son, Jordan...

My son, Jordan, is visiting for a week. He lives in the Ft. Worth area so we don't see him very often in person. Our granddaughter, Audrey, was also at the house, so Jordan did this impromptu sketch of her using her crayons. I thought it was kind of good!

Here's the little model...

And here is Jordan demonstrating his artistry on the piano. He played some of the worship music he does at his church as their worship leader. We sure are enjoying having him home!

It was a long day, and a good one! Goodnight and shalom!

My newest scripture journal painting...

Can you tell that it's an oasis? Now I just have to find the perfect scripture or thought to write on it...

I'm off to work. Y'all have a great day and SHALOM.

WOYWW, even though it's really Monday...

Okey, so I just wanted to participate in WOYWW, though these photos are from Monday. But this is what is still sitting on my workdesk! So here we go!

I'm trying to trick  myself into commiting to training for some 5k's this summer. One way of doing this is to invest in a new pair of shoes. These were actually some of the cheaper shoes ($69) but, since I'm not going for the Olympics, I thought they would do just fine. I thought I would immortalize them in pen, ink and paint.

This salesman could have sold ice to an eskimo, so I bought a can of waterproofing spray. Would you spray waterproofing on shoes that are made of mesh and are supposed to "breathe"? Anyway, Bob can use the stuff on his shoes! :D  See my model posing?

The finished artwork...

Well, it was my first attempt at shoes. At least I did a little art! I think shoes compare to cars in being difficult to capture (for me, anyway). So maybe I'll try drawing a car sometime...

If you'd like to visit more workdesks all around the world go to Julia's blog and hit the links! :D

Shalom for now!

Thanks for the tip, M.K.!

I've been fooling about with Picmonkey, as suggested by M.K. over at Through a Glass Darkly. It is pretty simple to make a nice header. I haven't gotten very fancy, but it was fun to try something new!

Better get to bed, but I thought it would be fun to have Ratty, Mole and Toad as a header. What do you think?

Shalom!

This is what a tea party looks like when the hostess is leaving for work in an hour!! :)
I picked up a box of "Yorkshire Tea" at Walmart this morning just for the occasion. I hope the boys like Oreos...

As long as we're allowing "virtual" things, here is my virtual home. Come on in! (I just Googled "hippy houses". Fun images!)

Do you like my living room? I think it might appeal to little creatures who live underground and on creek banks.

I've even recreated the interior of Toad's caravan...or what I imagine it might look like. I love caravans! I think it would be fun to live in one with only the bare necessities...like this one!

And this would be my choice of virtual frock. Is she a shepherd or what?

Well, my computer is acting funny, so I'll try to post this quickly . I hope to visit some tea parties when I get home!

Don't eat too much, boys!
