A Rainbow Willow...

Just felt like painting a willow tree. I've always loved willows and I wondered what it would look like for a willow tree to have rainbow colored branches.

I began by just swishing some rainbow colored strokes onto my paper. I wanted the branches to look windswept. Then I added the trunk and decided to put it on a river bank complete with a muskrat hole.

I liked this a lot, but after adding some ink to the trunk and grass I felt like the branches needed some leaves. So, I've begun adding some leaves. This may take a while, and it's getting late, so I'm showing my partially finished version.

It's been fun to do a little "inking" tonight. Capturing our dreams on paper...what could be more fun?

Sunday Sketches

I missed Sunday Sketches last week because I took a break from blogging due to the death of a little great-grandson, Gabriel. We were saddened that Gabriel did not survive his birthing and the whole family mourned with his mom and dad. We are sure that he is now healed and happy and living with Jesus where he will be surrounded with all of the love he can take in, and for that assurance we are thankful. So you will understand that much of my sketching for the last few days has centered around Gabriel's homegoing. I wanted to memorialize this little great-grandson in my scripture journal and begin adding some scriptures on death and eternal life. This is not a morbid thing, but a hopeful experience. So here is what I've put together so far...

I also did this zentangle for The Diva's Weekly Challenge...

and did an urban sketch of part of the Old City of Jerusalem for the Sketchbook Challenge.

I'm hoping that my sketches and my scripture journal will be things my family will treasure when I'm gone and that they will see the joy that art has brought to me and the hope I found in the scriptures. Of course, I'm not planning on going anywhere anytime soon, but our days are in the Lord's hands and it's always good to live as though He might call us home at any time.

29 Faces and Sunday Sketches...

Once again it's a workday, but I thought I'd sneak in a post for Sunday Sketches and the 29 Faces Challenge.

I did this quick pen and ink sketch (Face #27) in my "new" pen and ink journal...

And this is the outside cover of my "new" pen and ink journal...

I know, I know, who would draw pictures in a 1918 copy of a Grace Livingston Hill novel? I have about four of them which I purchased through eBay, I think, because a lot of gals were talking about how much they love her writing. After sitting on my shelves for a few years I decided that her stories weren't really my cup of tea, but I love the old books themselves and wanted to use them for something. Besides, I should still be able to read the stories through the drawings since I'll only use pen and watercolors. :D

I did a little more in my scripture journal last night and I'm showing the cover again because I think I may have added something to it since my last picture of it...

Well, that's it for the moment. Everyone have a great Sunday, and I hope your Memorial Weekend festivities aren't rained out. It's raining here, but we need a good rain.

I think I've overdosed on art a bit. Maybe I'll do some housework and then go out and transplant some little trees. I know, it's not the right time of year, but I never follow the rules and sometimes they even live through the experience!

Sunday Sketches

Today (Saturday) I've done a little bit of art. For the "29 Faces Challenge" at Ayala Art I drew this little fairy gal as my fifth face. It's pen and ink with colored pencil.

I also did some painting with my gouache paints to decorate a large envelope that I'm sending to my art buddy, Pom Pom! It was fun decorating something that will pass through so many  hands on its way to it's creative destination!

Mostly just having fun with my new paints! Hope your having a great week of art!
Sunday Sketches

Sunday Sketches...

Well, I finished a few things this week.
 For the Weekly Diva's Challenge I finished this Calvary zentangle. I thought it would be cool to design something with an eternal message out of the great zentangle patterns. I'm thinking the bottom is a little out of scale with the rest. I should have made the cockels 'n' mussels pattern a little smaller perhaps. But I still like it. The challenge was to design something for Earth Day and I was thinking, "There's no better message on earth!"

I also finished this watercolor of a rose for the Rookie Painter Challenge.

And for my hilarious finish, I did two portraits from photographs. These were for the Drawing Lab lessons at Painting Myself Pretty. We were to draw the portraits with our non-dominant hand, in my case my left hand. The first one was "sketchy", but my hand began cooperating a little more on the second one. It was a fun experiment!

Sunday Sketches...

I'm beginning a painting for Rookie Painter Challenge. I've just got the lighter shades and will add the darker shades when these dry.

This is a piece of zentangle inspired art. I'm not finished with it either. I'm not sure I like my choices of tangles for the clouds and sun, but it's too late now! :)  Gotta soldier on and finish it. I really enjoyed doing the vegetation, but wish I had made the cross grey instead of brown. Well, I can always do another scene using what I've learned from this one! (I think I'm going to finish it for this week's Diva Challenge.)

Still not sure I like this new blogger! I can't get it to let me write above the photos! Hints? (I did finally figure out that you simply type and then insert pics where you want them as you go along. So much easier than the old version where your pictures appear at the top and out of order no matter how hard you try! I was getting tired of cutting and pasting to get photos where I wanted them. This is nice!)

Sunday Sketches...

I've been doing so much this week that I couldn't choose just one! This first one is a zentangle inspired piece of art for the Diva's Weekly Challenge. This was my first try at a zentangle and I'm hooked! These three were for the Drawing Lab lessons. The idea was to draw as many cats as you could from your imagination. No photos or real cats allowed. It's harder than it sounds! Join us online!
