Natural deodorant...a topic whose time has come...

Really. I switched to Tom's of Maine deodorant quite a while ago, wanting to eliminate the absorption of aluminum into my system. For some reason I read all of the ingredients in his deodorant today and found among them sunflower seed oil. My chiropractor had pointed out that sunflower seeds were something that my body didn't like. I'm not ordinarily a sunflower eater, so I wasn't too concerned about it. But after seeing this in my deodorant I'm wondering if I can do better than to use this. So, I'm checking out natural deodorant recipes. (A heckuvalot cheaper than old Tom's too, I bet.)

  1. I wonder how these natural deodorants would work for men My DH has had a problem with regular deodorants and has used a kind of "rock crystal" with not great results.

  2. This si really interesting because recemtly our Science teacher nebtioned a deodorant from our main health food/remedies chain that was compleetly natural. I must look at it and check the ingredients. What I'm starting to think through this week, again based on recent Science classes that my class are having, is how we could eat only organic meat and avoid the unseen antibiotics. How can I shop to cut costs enough to make the meat feasible?!

    1. I know what you mean. So many of the "natural" and "organic" products are prohibitively expensive!

  3. Well! I will be clicking over to see what she says. I switched to natural deo. quite a few years ago, I think I used an Arm and Hammer brand. And it worked fine, b/c as I've aged I don't really sweat anymore, and a simple deodorant is fine.
But then ... one time I started using Toms b/c I thought it was even more natural and healthy, and I was allergic to it! I began to develop very red armpits, and when I asked Adam about it, he said it looked to him like I was allergic to something. So I switched back to regular old Suave deo, and it has been better ever since.
I also would like to avoid the aluminum, so maybe I'll check into a recipe and make some. I wonder if perhaps I was also reacting badly to the sunflower seed oils in the Toms? Hmm. THanks for posting this, Lisa!
