Baring our souls...

I was just thinking about how much I appreciate being able to put my dreams out here with no fear of being scoffed at or ridiculed. Many of those dreams may never come to fruition, but it's worth something just to have them, don't you think?

One of my dreams is creating a line of marketable greeting card illustrations. Why do I feel the need to make art to sell instead of just for the joy of making it? Well, I'd like to do both, but I also feel I will need to supplement my income and this would be a pleasant way of doing it. I seem to spend most of my art time writing ideas in notebooks, hoping that I will have time to implement those ideas when I semi-retire. (In maybe two years? Only the Lord knows for sure!)

In the meantime I suppose I should practice! My idea at the moment is to do some acrylics, because they are just plain fun to play with. You can layer them and smear them around and make bright and cheerful designs. I'd like to get away from my usual realistic style and try something more like a combination of the styles of Rosina Wachtmeister (minus the cats) and Van Gogh. Do you see the resemblance between their styles? Child-like, and just plain magical.

So, that's one more idea swirling around in my brain. Meanwhile, here is my latest ATC for the Landscapes swap. I'm not sure I'll get these done by the deadline, but landscape swaps come up frequently, so I can always use them later. I love the little mushrooms which I found in a photo from Paint My Photos, I believe.
I'll be babysitting Audrey and Hazel in a few hours, so I'm off to do some other things that need doing. Hope you all have a wonderful day! It's sunny and bright here and temps are supposed to get up in the 20's and 30's this week!! :)

Thanks for dropping by and shalom to you and your households!

  1. it is playful and fun, makes me happy just looking at the pictures...all of them! I live in a very small community where most live by the quote, "It's not enough that I succeed, my friends must also fail." Having said that, my blog is one people read so they can find out what I'm doing and gossip about me. Yes, it really is that cruel around here. Between the people who owe me money, who steal from me and gossip is it any wonder I have so few friends here? I am so ready to be delivered from this county.

  2. Lisa, I love all your illustrations! I wish I had a quarter of your talent. I have a sister that has made lovely cards that she has illustrated with birds, bird nests etc... She sends them to lucky recipients but it's not a money making thing for her either. Now I have to go and use my cookie-making talent so when the grands come home from school the house will smell wonderfully.

    1. That's kind of what I've been doing with ATC's. I would just love to give the greeting card thing a shot and see what happens. Your cookies look yummy! :)

  3. You see, you always mirror the path of my thoughts. I have been reading A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf and have just read a passage that blows Edith Schaeffer out of the water, and my tranquillity with it. Summed up I think it would much advocate your working hard on your greetings cards!

  5. Pursue your desires and dreams with joy, Lisa! Truly, you will never know even just the joy of the creating, until you begin. I'd LOVE to see the cards you will make. I love the art of both those people you posted above, the top one especially. It's a childlike, whimsical style that is adorable. And the photo in your banner is very, very nice :)

  6. Dear Lisa, without dreams life is so poor! You enrich the world with your ideas and all your creative things you do, also you enrich the world with your love and positive feelings! Wonderful!

You drawings make this world more peaceful. Do just your stile - and this is good!
