Three new Kindle books...

I really do prefer paper books, but how can I pass up a title for 99 cents on my Kindle, when I would have to pay $3.99 s&h if I bought it in paper? No matter how cheap it was it sure adds up! Plus, I can read my Kindle without a lamp close by in the evening. So, I guess I'm going to take the middle road. Some of each!

Here are the three books I bought yesterday for a grand total of about $3.97!

Melissa over at The Book of Common Life had a quote from Through the Looking Glass in her sidebar. It occurred to me that this is a book I want to read "someday". I love the old hardback cover, but the hardback antique version was like $44. I can still enjoy looking at the picture of the cover and read the book for 99 cents. :)

Next...
I have a couple of Tozer's books on my shelves and haven't finished them, but I do like him. I'm a sucker for Amazon's little technique of showing you "other books you might like".

And lastly...
C.S. Lewis edited this book of selections from George MacDonald's writings. I believe it's set up like a devotional with 365 readings. I've read a little of George MacDonald's work. Lewis just loved him, but I don't always love the books that Jack loved. ;) I read Phantastes and thought it sort of "meh". But I'm going to give his works another shot. (I LOVE C.S. Lewis, but find that I have a hard time with his theological writings. I get a headache trying to follow him and give up. I've tried to read "Mere Christianity" several times and haven't gotten very far. But I especially adore his letters to friends and family. And I love his children's books and space trilogy.)

Just finished...
I really liked it. She makes you cry a lot. She said that one lady sent her an email which said, "So much talk. So little said," or something to that effect. I have to say, she is a little wordy. But she spends a lot of time building scaffolding so that when she gets to her main point it has more meaning. I got this one for free back when she had a big free book giveaway. I downloaded 14 of her books! Yikes! Will I ever finish them?

So, I'm sitting home watching a pretty snowfall out the window. Think I'll do some reading and maybe clean a bathroom. You all have a great day!

Shalom to all.

  1. Kindle Unlimited is nice because for 7 dollars a month, you can download ten books at a time and then read them and "give them back" .
Beth Moore loves women and feels such compassion for them. She does have an extremely chatty writer's voice, lots of words. I like her heart and I appreciate her diligence. I never feel like I have to read anything! Ha! No need for book goals, but definitely a need for other goals for me!

    1. Kindle Unlimited sounds like a good deal, but I don't read enough and I would feel like I had to if I was paying a monthly fee. Some of my books I won't read for years! :) No book goals here either. They can wait patiently.

  2. Lisa, I check out ebooks from the county library, via Overdrive, and don't have to pay anything. I now have it set up for both my Kindle Paperwhite and my Nextbook 8 (Nook and Google books). I also buy from B&N whatever I can for 99 cents or else just read the free ones. About my archived blog. It is on Wordpress and has been inactive for 2 1/2 years. My sister's blog is also on Wordpress and she only posts a few times a year. WP doesn't seem to mind if one is inactive. I don't know about Blogspot.

    1. I might have to learn how to do that at the library! I looked around on BlogSpot and came to the conclusion that my blogs are probably pretty safe. Some folks are ASKING to delete their blogs and can't seem to. :)

  3. Gosh these are really interesting recommendations and we are promised more than a little snowfall next week- hmmm! I decided over Christmas that I much prefer paper to Kindle but you're right- you can gather things up so cheaply from that beautifully named whispernet!

  5. I had no idea about that C.S. Lewis book on MacDonald. I will definitely check that one out! Currently I am conflicted about books that are either $9.99 on Kindle or $4 including shipping, bought used. My payment for the latter format is WAITING.
