WOYWW!

Here I come slogging in at the end of the list! :D

Well, I'm mostly working in my scripture journal, so that is on my desk along with a notebook that I scribble notes in regarding artistic ideas.

Of course, there's the WOYWW badge in the background along with a bottle of pop. I'd given up pop for a long time, now I've slipped back into the habit. :(

Here are a few of the pages in my journal, including some I've just begun...

(Sorry, blurry!)

After I finish a few in this format I'll probably go with some spur of the moment art and scriptures. I know I don't want to do the same thing throughout. The format is pretty simple compared to the complex collage journals many are  making, but I wanted to concentrate on time reading the Bible and not so much on the art. I'm hoping this will be something to hand down to my kids so they can have a book of "scriptures that meant something to Mom", and some of my personal thoughts.

Here's what's on my slant top desk. The donkey drawing is #29 of my 29 Faces Challenge drawings. I think it's one of my favorites!

If you'd like to visit more desks from around the world go to Julia's Stamping Grounds for links to more desks! Have a great WOYWW, everyone!

29 Faces Challenge-Day 29

In two minutes it will be May 29th here, so I'm posting Face #29.

I think I particularly enjoy drawing animal faces! I've enjoyed this challenge so much! You can see more faces at Ayala Art!

And now, goodnight and shalom!

29 Faces Challenge-Day 28 and The Diva's Challenge #72

Cheapy watercolors on Bristol with a smidge of pen...

Okay, so I like blue and green hair!

For more faces go to Ayala Art!

The Diva's Challenge for this week is a monotangle using the Crescent Moon tangle. A monotangle requires that we use only one tangle in different variations. Here's my attempt!

I'm thinking I do better with a free-form shape rather than a square when it comes to zentangle inspired art! Anyway... :) To see more zentangles go to The Diva's Weekly Challenge!

29 Faces and Sunday Sketches...

Once again it's a workday, but I thought I'd sneak in a post for Sunday Sketches and the 29 Faces Challenge.

I did this quick pen and ink sketch (Face #27) in my "new" pen and ink journal...

And this is the outside cover of my "new" pen and ink journal...

I know, I know, who would draw pictures in a 1918 copy of a Grace Livingston Hill novel? I have about four of them which I purchased through eBay, I think, because a lot of gals were talking about how much they love her writing. After sitting on my shelves for a few years I decided that her stories weren't really my cup of tea, but I love the old books themselves and wanted to use them for something. Besides, I should still be able to read the stories through the drawings since I'll only use pen and watercolors. :D

I did a little more in my scripture journal last night and I'm showing the cover again because I think I may have added something to it since my last picture of it...

Well, that's it for the moment. Everyone have a great Sunday, and I hope your Memorial Weekend festivities aren't rained out. It's raining here, but we need a good rain.

Working on the scripture journal...

I've made those first few scary marks in my scripture journal. Now I'm committed! :)

I started with one of my favorite salvation scriptures, which I think explains the gospel in a nutshell. I wanted a simple representation of Calvary in the corner. I will add scriptures and thoughts as I come across them. Now I need to add more watercolor paper pages. This is so exciting!

Now I'd better draw a face for today! I'll be back to post it...

Yup, I think I'm tired if this is all I can come up with! :D I do have to say, this challenge has removed my fear of drawing faces, and for that I am thankful!

To see many interesting faces go to the 29 Faces Challenge!

Shalom!

Beginning my scripture journal...

I've been procrastinating on beginning this journal for a while. I made one false start, trying to gesso the text pages, then realizing I didn't have the right paints to work on that surface. Now I'm gluing a couple of text pages together, then gluing watercolor paper on top of that. Now I can just paint with watercolors and use pen, which is what I prefer. Maybe later I'll try acrylics, but for this journal I'll go this direction.

I'm planning to write a theme word, such as Salvation shown here, on each two page spread, then paint some blocks of watercolor. When the paint dries I will write scriptures and thoughts in pen. I may do a few drawings as well. On this page in the upper right where you see a peach colored area I'm going to do a sketch of Calvary. In the pink area I'll write a scripture. I look forward to filling in these pages with scriptures I want to remember. My challenge will be narrowing down the scriptures to a pithy few!

It's SUNNY! Time to get ready for work. I'm looking forward to Monday when I can spend the whole day on art and other delights! :D

Have a great day filled with shalom!

29 Faces Challenge-Day 25

I  had a scrap of cardboard  laying around so I started a face shape, then it evolved into this little drawing that I call...
GIRL WITH DREADS...

This cardboard  had a glossy finish, almost like Bristol, and it didn't take colored pencil very well. I may try some paint over it, but I wanted to take a photo of it first.

To see more faces in the 29 Faces Challenge go here!

Have a great day and shalom to all!

29 Faces-Day 24 and some others...

Got up way too early this morning. Blahhh.... :) I may have to take a nap before work, lol!

Anyway, as long as I was up I thought I might as well do a little Bible study. Then I figured as long as I was sitting at my art desk I would finish up a face for today and a ZIA (zentangle inspired art).

I've always loved illustrations of gnarled trees with faces, so I invented one of my own. This is my 24th face for the 29 Faces Challenge!

I'll post this on The Twenty Minute Challenge as well.

I also finished up my second zentangle for the current Diva's Challenge. (My first was kind of iffy!)
I'm still not doing a great job of  the pea-knuckle tangle. It's hard to get all of the S shapes uniform and to line them up correctly. I included my favorite inapods and I've always wanted to try the pokeroot and pokeleaf tangles, so here they are. I added a little color for interest.

Thanks for stopping by!
Shalom and have a great day!

29 Faces-Day 23

A drawing of my niece Naomi taken from her graduation photo.

Not nearly as cute as she is! (I'm not going to show it to her, lol!)

WOYWW!

So, you REALLY want to know what's on my desk for What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday? Well, HEEEERE it is! :D

Yup, a half-eaten brownie, a small swig of iced tea and some flotsam and jetsam. The piece of watercolor paper in the background sports blobs of paint I swiped there while choosing the colors for Face 22 of my 29 Faces for that challenge.

And here is what is on my slant top desk. I worked a little in my scripture journal today too, but that's stashed below.

Well, I'm off to work on a piece of zentangle inspired art for the Diva's Challenge. The tangle we're using this week is indeed a challenge!

Everyone have a great time at your desk this week!

Shalom!

29 Faces-Day 22 and Sketchbook Challenge

Okay, a real person this time! But I couldn't help fixing her hair a little. I call this...
GIRL WITH HIGHLIGHTS

This was fun! I worked and reworked her features, smeared the ink a bit, fixed it a little, and then chose the colors for her hair. I felt like a hairdresser!  The girl in the photo I used was probably in her twenties. This gal looks about 13, but I like her a lot.
Everyone have a great time drawing those faces!
To see more go to the Ayala Art blog!

For The Sketchbook Challenge I drew some corn and found a couple of poems to go with them.

Lots of fun today!

29 Faces-Day 21 and The Diva's Challenge

Yup, two, two, two challenges in one! My apologies to The Diva. I sort of just stuck today's challenge onto something I was already making, but with my work schedule this week I thought I'd better get it in right away! Maybe I'll find time to do another zentangle later...maybe not.

SO, for my 21st face I decided to make a face using tangles! Here with her pais hair, inapod eyes, and btl joos mouth is the...Bride of Beetlejuice...

She also sports a purple featherfall boa and onamato necklace, not to mention her printemp cheeks. To the left is my first miserable attempt at the new pea-knuckle tangle. My second attempt at the right is a little bit of an improvement, but this is one of those I have difficulty lining up right. Well, it's a start!

To see more from these challenges go to The Diva's Challenge and Ayala Art blogs!

Have a great day everyone, and...

29 Faces-Day 20

This didn't turn out very well. I think I was just in too much of a hurry. I forgot about drawing a face until almost 9:30 and so I kind of hurried through it.

This is a drawing of my husband's great-grandfather, Hans Langseth. As you can read from the clipping, he is (or was) in the Guinness Book of World Records for his beard, which was 17 1/2 ft. long when he died. Beards are hard to draw!  ( I kind of chopped off part of his beard when I took the photo, but it droops down and then comes back up where he threw the end over his shoulder! He used to wind it up and stuff it into a sugar sack which he put inside of his shirt! His wife would wash his beard and then drape it over the clothesline outside to dry. I guess he must have been a character and this was his claim to fame.)  :D

I've been outside transplanting trees this evening and every muscle aches. I think I'll turn in. Have a great evening. You'll find more faces at the 29 Faces Challenge on the Ayala Art blog!

Shalom!

Sunday Sketches

This has been a busy week drawing-wise with the 29 Faces Challenge, Sketchbook Challenge and the Diva's Weekly Challenge. Here are some things I worked on:

29 Faces

29 Faces

Sketchbook Challenge-Veggies and Fruits

The Diva's Weekly Challenge

More Faces

And then I did some more on my header art.

I think I've overdosed on art a bit. Maybe I'll do some housework and then go out and transplant some little trees. I know, it's not the right time of year, but I never follow the rules and sometimes they even live through the experience!

Have a great day! To see more Sunday Sketches blogs click on the button!

29 Faces-Day 19

Okay, time for fun stuff again! With my granddaughter and her folks living with us, you can bet we see a lot of Spongebob. That guy's been around for a long time! I can remember my kids watching him! Of course, they probably still do...  So here's my salute to Spongebob fun.

I discovered that when you set out to paint Spongebob's face, his whole body comes with it! :D I thought I'd save images of all the stages he went through so I could choose which I like best. :)
Well, this was a fun and relaxing face to do. To see more faces please go to the Ayala Art blog!

TSMSS!

Classic '60's Jesus music! This is a little bit of history for those of us who came to the Lord in the '60's and '70's. It makes me smile at the memories of those days, and makes me cry to hear these guys sing.

29 Faces-Day 18

For day 18 of the 29 Faces Challenge, another self-portrait. This is from my wedding photo, 32 years ago! Like my other self-portrait, and my drawing of my daughter, I didn't quite hit the mark, but it's practice, right?

Well, it's late. I got home from work and grocery shopping at about 9:30 and wanted to get my drawing in. Thunder storms here! We need the rain!

Good-night and shalom!

29 Faces-Day 17

This was drawn from a photo of my daughter, Micah. It looks nothing like her, but it was good practice in trying to capture an unusual facial gesture! :)

This is one of my favorite photos of my daughter, taken a few years ago. Kind of a cute expression. She's sort of a smart aleck, so I imagine she was coming up with a snappy retort! ;)

This was fun to draw and since it took less than 20 minutes, I'll post it at the 20 Minute Challenge as well and the 29 Faces Challenge.

Nighty-night!
And, shalom, of course!

29 Faces Challenge-Day16

Here's a quicky for today. It's a workday, so I can't dawdle.

I have to confess, I drew this a couple of days ago and just added some gouache this morning! One of my rare drawings without using a model.

Have a great day! To see more faces go to Ayala Art...

The Diva's Weekly Challenge...

Well, I don't own a sepia pen, so I shaded this little bookmark with a colored pencil.

Bookmarks are something we can always use more of...or we can give them as gifts!

For more zentangle fun visit The Diva's Weekly Challenge!

WOYWW!!

I used two different spaces for workdesks this week. It was fun to move all of my stuff to the dining room table where I could look out the sliding doors at the sunny day!

This is where I played today. My usual spot...

I've mainly been working on faces for the "29 Faces Challenge" at the Ayala Art blog and veggies for the Sketchbook Challenge. (See links on sidebar.) Oh, also a zentangle bookmark for The Diva's Weekly Challenge. (Also on sidebar.)

Lots of fun being had on my days off! Hope your desk has been busy! To see more crafty desks click on the button below! :D
